Jun 07, 2020 · Back in the 1970's I was welding boiler tubes on the largest coal fired boiler made . Welding the roof tubes, only tubes in the project that was not American made. We started welding and not one weld would pass xray. Started welding and would hit a pocket of scrag. Grind it out and hit another.

Sep 27, 2009 · Looks like the setup we had at the boiler shop I worked at back in the late 70's early 80's. We were welding boiler tubes to the tube sheets after they were rolled. Our unit was hooked up to a Hobart Cyber-TIG machine, we used .023 wire in ours and it produced some of the nicest looking welds.

Nov 10, 2015 · A few years down the track I ended up buying a second hand 3 phase mig welder that can use Argon gas flux from a small boiler maker/metal fabrication business for $500 and it makes a huge difference. You don't waste as much time cleaning the surface, it was able to weld thick steel perfectly.

Jun 12, 2019 · Only commercial oil boilers or really old ones will be cast iron. Gas boilers were often cast iron. The hot water plate heat exchangers are stainless on combis. Anyway the boiler was leaking so I drained the system, stripped the boiler down and took it up to his workshop where he welded it up with a big old butters mig.

Dec 17, 2014 · Don't like to say it, as it goes against the grain of my hatred of this throwaway world we live in, but.. at 12 years old, and the difficulties of trying to get a new part at 125 -200 quid, taken against a new more efficient boiler in the region of 500. Personally I would be looking at the more efficient new boiler, unless it was a cheap repair.
